Any Graduate in the country will surely be aware of CAT, which is an incredibly competitive and undoubtedly the most popular MBA entrance exam India. On the basis of CAT score a student can take admission on one the top 160 management institutes across India which includes all 13 IIMs.

Although, there are several other exams besides CAT for MBA entrance that every student can and must write.

As, Many good management schools conduct their own entrance test. Giving these exam basically helps to reduce your risk and provide you with some excellent options in the case when a candidate does not have any other option left besides CAT, and believe it or not, if you are stress free then it will eventually increase your productivity.

There are various state level MBA entrance exam as well. Which are conducted by the state government of the respective state and after clearing such exams you can easily apply for any reputed (govt/private) MBA college in the state. Their are some exams that are conducted by various govt. Agencies.

The main problem that the students face is that, they are so focused and blind towards CAT that they don't even bother to look for other exams. But after they have given CAT their is eventually no option left. So it is wise to be aware of these exams because they can really boost your career.

Awareness and adequate preparation for these exams is very essential, as these tests are slightly different from CAT. some of them have different marking scheme, question pattern or even time allocation. So here is the detailed list of some of the top management exams in the country with their eligibility criteria and entrance dates.

List of national level exams


MAT (Management Aptitude Test)

It is a national-level management entrance examination. Whose test scores can be used for admission to various MBA, PGDM and allied management programmes. The exam is conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA). More than 600 B-Schools accept MAT exam scores.

It is scheduled four times in a year

  • February
  • May
  • September
  • December.


The December 2017 exam schedule has been announced. The paper-based test will be conducted on December 10, 2017 (10.00am-12.30pm), and computer-based test will take place on December 16, 2017.

Registration is closed XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test)

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is national management aptitude test conducted by Xavier School of Management, (XLRI) Xavier Labour Relations Institute, Jamshedpur.

XLRI conducts this entrance exam for Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI). XAT scores are applicable in more than 800 institutes for admission to MBA, PGDM and other management courses.

Eligibility criteria for XAT 2018:

  • (MIN) 3 year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
  • Final year students can also who are giving exams getting graduated by June 2018, can also apply.
  • NRI and Foreign candidates may apply through GMAT scores.


Note: There’s no specific age limit for XAT exam.

XAT online registration forms will be available for around 3 months or more. Accordingly, XAT 2018 exam online application will be open till November 30 (without late fee) and will cost Rs.1650 and till (Dec 15 with late fee) and will cost Rs.2000.

Common Management Admission Test (CMAT)

A national-level online management entrance test which is conducted by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). It is a 3 hour long online test which evaluated candidate’s ability across various segments like Quantitative Technique, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension and General Awareness. The scores of this exams are accepted by almost all AICTE-Approved Institutions/University Departments/Constituent Colleges/Affiliated Colleges.

The eligibility criteria for CMAT 2018 is:

  • The aspirant should be a graduate in any discipline (min 3 year graduation required)
  • Final year students may also apply
  • There’s no age limit for CMAT
  • The candidate must be a citizen of India


To apply for CMAT 2018, candidates need to log on to official website of CMAT. Exam registrations began on October 20, 2017.

While filling up the application form, Candidates need to select dates and their preferred 3 cities (test venues).

Test fees for General and OBC candidates is Rs 1400, while for SC/ST/PD candidates it is Rs 700 excluding Bank charges (excluding bank charges).

IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade)

IIFT is one of the leading and prominent business school of India. This institute is famous for their great expertise in management courses in international business management and Strategy courses..

IIFT conducts a completely separate entrance test to select candidates which is based on marks obtained in the written test, then candidates called for essay writing, group discussion and interview.

IIFT 2018 is already conducted on Dec 3, 2017 and results will be out by the end of the Dec 2017.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 3 year of Graduation.
  • Final year candidates may also apply, But they have to submit the proof related to their qualification by Oct 7, 2018
    • General category candidates must have aggregate 50% or more marks in graduation, and candidates from to SC/ST/PWD categories must have 45% in graduation
    • There is no age limit for the applicants

ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions)

(ATMA) is a national-level online management entrance examination. It is basically conducted by AIMS (the Association of Indian Management Schools ). ATMA scores Applicable in various colleges across India for MBA admissions.

The exam is held four times in a year- February, May, June, July But in 2017 it was held five times on total

In 2018, we can expect the exams to happen in the same months as 2017.

  • The candidate should be the citizen of India.
  • The candidate should have at least a 3 year Candidates who are in their final year of Graduation are also eligible for the exam
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 50% marks in graduation,
  • This aggregate marks may however vary for different management institutes or Universities
  • There is no age limit on appearing in ATMA


Note - ATMA exam date for the year 2018 are not declared yet but they will be organising exams in the same months mentioned above, but you can expect that application form will be out before a month of the exam.

NMAT (Narsee Monjee Management Aptitude Test)

NMAT is an another national-level MBA entrance exam for taking admission in renowned management colleges such as ;

  • Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS)
  • Alliance University, SRM University
  • BML Munjal University
  • VIT University
  • ICFAI Business School (IBS)
  • Ansal University


The exam is held between October 5 to December 18, 2017.

  • Student should follow (10+2+3/4) graduation line in any discipline from a recognised university
  • Students must at least 50% score in aggregate in their graduation.
  • Candidates with work ex of two or more years after graduation will be favore
  • Students in their final year of bachelors can also apply


The exam has already been held in this year and next year registration form will be out in the first week of JULY 2018
The cost per application form will be INR 1800 + applicable taxes

SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude test)

SNAP Test is another national-level management examination, conducted by Symbiosis International Deemed University . Test scores of these exams are valid for admission to all 15 institutes under SIU. The scores are also valid for admission to various other MBA or pgdm equivalent courses.

This year, for the second time, the exam was held online.

SNAP 2017 registrations began on Aug 22, 2017, and ended on Nov 24, SNAP 2017 test has been scheduled on Dec 17, 2017.

Eligibility

  • Candidates should have at least 50% marks in graduation from recognised university or institute (45% for SC/ST candidates) for all the Master of Business Administration programmes.
  • Alliance University, SRM University
  • Final year students are also eligible for SNAP test.
  • There’s no age limit for SNAP, hence anyone can apply.

TISSNET (Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test)

This is a national level exam, conducted by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) conducts a National Entrance Test (NET). The exam is conducted for all Masters programmes offered in TISS campuses.

TISS does not offer any MBA programme. Instead, it offers masters in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations (HRM & LR) programme at its Mumbai campus. It also offers various other unique Master's degrees.

TISSNET 2018 schedule has been announced.

It is a computer-based entrance exam. This is a unique 100 minutes (1 hour & 40 minutes) exam, as most of the management exams are usually of 3hrs.

Eligibility criteria

  • A min of 3 year graduation degree required
  • Last year students may also apply.
  • Only those candidates who will be able to complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor's Degree examinations by the first week of June 2017 are eligible to apply to all the programme.
  • There's no age limit.


The TISSNET 2018 applications are closed now, they lasted from Oct 24, 2017 to Dec8 2017 and the exam will be conducted on Jan 8 2017

IBSAT (ICFAI Business Studies Aptitude Test)

IBSAT is an management aptitude test, which is conducted online by The ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education. The test scores can be used for admission to MBA and PhD in various programs of 9 ICFAI Business school.

BSAT is conducted on more than one days in the month of December.

Dates of 2017 exam is scheduled between December 21 to 24, 2017 and the result will be declared on January 2, 2018.

Eligibility criteria

  • Graduation in any discipline with minimum 50% and above aggregate marks.
  • Medium of delivery in graduation should be English or candidates need to submit the TOEFL/ NELT/ IELTS score.
  • Final year bachelor’s degree students may also apply.
  • There is no age limit.

List of state level exams


AP ICET (Andhra Pradesh Integrated Common Entrance Test)

It is a state level exam conducted by Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati on behalf of Andra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education for admission into the Master of Business course.

Eligibility criteria

  • A candidate must be an Indian National.
  • Candidate should satisfy the local/non-local status.
  • Final year bachelor’s degree students may also apply.

KMAT ( Karnataka Management Aptitude Test)

KMAT is a national level exam conducted by the MG University in Kerala. Through this exam, students have a chance to get admission in various reputed governments /private institutions of management in the state of Kerala.

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates should have at least 50% marks in graduation from recognised university (40% in case of reserved categories)
  • Final year students are also eligible for SNAP test.
  • There’s no age limit for SNAP, hence anyone can apply.

TANCET (TamilNadu Common Entrance Test)

TANCET is conducted for taking admission in MBA, MCA , ME/MTech/MArch Degree programmes in different colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is being conducted by Anna University, Chennai, on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It’s scores are accepted by all the state and regional colleges of Tamil Nadu

TANCET 2017 Exam has already been conducted.

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates should have at least 50% marks in graduation from recognised university (40% in case of reserved categories)
  • At least 3 years of graduation degree (or)
  • Diploma + 3 years of experience

GCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test)

Gujarat Technological University is a well reputed institution itself and is affiliating many reputed colleges across the state of Gujarat. The University Affiliates more than 440 colleges and 15 recognized Institutions. It provides a variety of courses including courses in Medical, Pharmacy, Commerce, Engineering & Technology and Management through its various affiliated Colleges.

Eligibility criteria

  • Student should be a citizen of India
  • At least 50% graduation marks (45% in case of Reserved category.)
  • No age limit.
  • Final year students are eligible

Exam usually held within first 10 days of July and applications forms are available from 2 months prior to the exam.

RMAT (Rajasthan Management Aptitude Test)

RMAT has now been scrapped and student are enrolled on the basis of the scores obtained in CMAT. Aspirants who have not appeared for CMAT are enrolled on the basis of merit in graduation. These candidates are further called in for the counselling rounds, and the final selection of the students is done thereafter.

Rajasthan Management Aptitude Test (RMAT) is a state level MBA entrance examination conducted by the Rajasthan Technical University. The exam is a gateway to 2 year MBA programs that are offered by about 142 colleges affiliated to Rajasthan University.

Candidates must note that they can appear for the exam only if they belong to Rajasthan (candidates living in Indian states other than Rajasthan are not eligible for the exam).

Eligibility criteria

  • Final year student are eligible for exam, as they just have to submit a certificate from college.
  • The candidate should be a citizen of Rajasthan (holding bonafied as a proof). Students from other states are not eligible for this exam.
  • At Least 50% graduation marks are required (45% in case of reserved categories)

HP MAT (Himachal Pradesh Management Aptitude Test)

It is again a reputed state exam, as the name suggest and it is conducted every year for admissions to its various MBA and PGDM programmes in Himachal Pradesh University Business School (HPUBS) located in Summerhill a few Kilometers away from the Beautiful Town of Shimla.

The business school has the total of 120 seats for which firstly you have to clear this exam, which is followed by a group discussion session and a personal interview. The final selection of a student clearly depends on his/her performance in all the three verticals.

  • Candidates should have at least 50% marks in graduation from recognised university (45% in case of reserved categories)
  • Candidates in their final year of Graduation can also apply.
  • Maximum age limit is 26 for boys and 28 for girls. (SC/ST candidates, both boys and girls can apply up to the age of 29)

JEMAT (Joint Entrance Management Aptitude Test)

JEMAT is basically conducted by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (West Bengal) for the Government of West Bengal. They also conducts entrance exams for various other courses like Engineering, MCA, etc.

This exam is created every year in the month of July for taking admissions in various AICTE approved PG programmes offered by reputed management schools of West Bengal including bith Govt and Private.This exam is then followed by a group discussion round and a personal interview round

  • 50% graduation marks in filed for a recognised university
  • Students in final year of Graduation can also apply (If they are capable to submit their final year marksheet at the time of admission)
