The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a National Entrance Test conducted by All India Management Aptitude Testing Service (AIMATS), for admission to MBA and equivalent programmes of the various participating institutes.

AIMA-MAT is usually conducted 4 times a year: generally on the first Sunday of February, May, September and December. The list of institutes that use the AIMA-MAT results varies from test to test.

The candidate must be a graduate in any discipline. Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree and those who are awaiting results can also apply.

MAT is a paper-based as well as computer-based test. A candidate can choose either one of the two testing formats. While the paper-based test is conducted in one day, the computer-based test is conducted in the week following the paper-based test, over a window of approximately a week.

Candidates appearing for the December MAT 2016 can choose any one of the following modes to apply:

Obtain form with MAT Bulletin/CD against cash payment of Rs 1200/- (One thousand two hundred only) from listed branches of Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, listed study centres of AIMA or from AIMA, New Delhi.  or Obtain crossed Demand Draft (DD) of Rs 1200/- (One thousand two hundred only) in favour of ‘All India Management Association’, payable at Delhi from any bank. A.1: MAT is usually conducted 4 times in a year in February, May, September and December.

The minimum qualification required for appearing in MAT is graduation in any discipline from any recognized University or equivalent recognized degree. A final year student in any undergraduate (i.e. B.A, B.Sc., B.Com., B.Tech., etc) can also appear provisionally. Usually,  there is a minimum percentage requirement in graduation, which is different for different MIs/University. For better information on this, refer to the prospectus of the particular MIs/University. 

A.2: Candidates can choose either one of the two options to take the test: paper based test or  computer based test. 

A.3: The paper based test is conducted on the first Sunday of February, May,  September and December, from 1000-1230 hours. The computer based test is conducted from Saturday onwards (6 days after the paper based test date) and in different time  slots. 

Is the criteria for admission same for all the institutes? Are these institutes recognized by-  AICTE? Do they have hostel facilities? What is the total fee like? 

A.4: The number of participating MI’s may vary. The number of MI’s keeps on changing from  test to test. Admission criteria for every institute are different. All MIs participating in MAT are either AICTE, DEC approved; University affiliated College, University Department. For further  information, you may contact the MIs/Universities of your choice. The list of various MIs/Universities is available in the MAT bulletin along with the admission notification. It is worthwhile to go through the brochure of the MIs for detailed information. 

A.5: Candidates can choose any one of the three modes to apply:  register online at website link www.aima.in/testing-services/mat/mat.html with Credit Card or Debit Card(ATM Card) payment of Rs.1,200/-. A.6: The MAT score is valid for one year for that particular session for most MI’s.

A.7: The last date for submission is mentioned in the MAT bulletin. The last date also appears in the notification released by AIMA in various national & regional newspapers. 

A.8: For applying to MI’s it is suggested that the applicant buys the prospectus of the chosen MI’s.

A.9: MAT is conducted in all the major cities of the country and in leading cities abroad. For further clarification, see the MAT bulletin or contact our information centre. Test venues for paper based test and computer based test are different. If the number of candidates that have registered for the computer based test is few/limited, these candidates appear for the paper based test on the first Sunday of the test month only. Each candidate can appear only once for the MAT.

A.10: All provisionally registered candidates can down load their Admit Card from the AIMA website link:http://www.aima.in/testing-services/mat/mat.html seven days before the paper based test date. Specific Admit Card will be generated for the candidates who have opted for the paper based test and for those who have opted for the computer based test. Admit Card will have the Candidate's Name,  Form No, Roll No, Test Date, Test Time and Test Venue Address. Candidates have to strictly follow the date and time allotted to them in case of the computer based test. This Admit Card contains Test Centre Address with Centre Code, Form No and Roll No of the candidate. No separate special card is issued. Also, activation of a test centre depends upon the minimum number of registrations. 

A.11: In the computer based test, the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor. The candidate submits the answers through the use of keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer. The paper based test, is generally offered to all candidates on a single day, while the computer based test is offered over a period of time and the candidate can choose the centre, the day and the time of the test at his/her convenience. The computer based test assumes that the candidate has basic familiarity with use of computers, such as the use of keyboard and mouse operation. It is the responsibility of the candidate to acquire these skills before appearing for the test and AIMA does not take responsibility for the same. In the traditional paper based test, the candidate is supposed to bring pens, HB-pencils, erasers and sharpener with him/her. The question paper & OMR answer sheet is provided at the test centre. 

A.12: There is no age bar. Work experience is not necessary. 

A.13: Yes, MAT is necessary for admission into PGDM/equivalent programmes offered by  AIMA or other MIs who participate in it.

A.14: It is an objective type test with multiple-choice answers. The test is designed to measure a person’s general aptitudes as the following table indicates: 

A 15: The Score Card is put up on the AIMA website during the last week of the month of the test. Candidates can download their respective score cards, using their 6-digit Registration Form Number and 9-digit Roll No from the AIMA website link http://apps.aima.in/mat_input_result.aspx.. Individual copy of Score Card with photograph is also sent through normal post to the address given in the Registration Form.
